On August 9, footage of an Indonesian supermarket collapsing was posted on social media. The collapse came after the deadly 6.9-magnitude earthquake struck the Indonesian island of Lombok last week.
The powerful earthquakes that struck the Indonesian island of Lombok in recent weeks have killed nearly 400 people and displaced over 350,000, according to Indonesia’s National Disaster Management Agency.
Those who have been forced to flee their homes are now living in camps,
Two deadly tremors occurred four days apart in August, and followed a 6.4-magnitude quake on the 29th July. The earthquakes have been accompanied by dozens of aftershocks which have exacerbated the widespread damage across the island, including homes, schools, supermarkets, and numerous tourist locations.
The supermarket was hit by a 6.2 aftershock, but had fortunately been evacuated after a previous aftershock, before the building collapsed.
