Black Mirror’s Pizza Hut prophecy comes true

Kiran Sonia Sawar in “Crocodile,” the third episode of Black MIrror’s fourth season.

As they say, art imitates life. Or is life imitating art now?

The third episode of Black Mirror’s new season, ‘Crocodile’, features a driverless pizza delivery van in the main plot. Its invention begins a sequence of events that lead to a number of deaths. You know, the usual Black Mirror stuff.

Weeks after the episode’s release, Pizza Hut took to Twitter to announce that it will be partnering with Toyota to develop driverless vehicles to deliver its pizzas. Apparently the company wants to introduce the technology by 2020.

You can see why some people might be worried. Black Mirror fans quickly picked up on the ‘coincidence’ and pointed out how the show’s predictions had come true.

Speaking last year, Black Mirror creator Charlie Brooker said that that if any events depicted in the new episodes came true then “the world is really fucked”.

He’s a little late to the party though. The world has been “so Black Mirror” since the 1920s.
